M.D., FACP, FCCP, CERTBBM, CERTOA

Retired Pulmonologist

After more than 30 years of clinical experience in the practice of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, I ended my career and am now pursuing non-western approaches to breathing. This was a result of reading James Nestor's book, Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art. This book was Mr. Nestor's account of his worldwide journey to find out what has happened with our breathing, and what can be done to correct the problem. He explored various breathing practices, some of which are ancient including pranayama, Nadi Shodhana, Yoga, Sudarshan Kriya, and Tummo; and the more recent, Buteyko Breathing Method. I was particularly interested in the Buteyko breathing method (BBM) started by the Russian physician, Dr. Konstantin Buteyko, in the 1950s. I read numerous scientific articles that corroborated some of his theories regarding what is proper breathing. My interest was piqued and I pursued training through the Buteyko Clinic International founded by Patrick McKeown, a leading authority on this breathing technique who studied directly under Dr. Buteyko in Moscow. After finishing my studies, I became certified in the Butekyjo Breathing Method (CertBBM). Subsequent to this, I underwent training in the Advanced Instructor for Oxygen Advantage (CertOA).
